I have always—and I mean always—been the person mosquitoes loved most. I'm talking about bites so bad that my entire leg would swell within minutes. Don't believe me? Just ask anyone in my family.
Several years ago, while we were in the middle of our fertility journey, we planned a week-long camping trip to the Sierra Nevada. I was worried about getting eaten alive, but I was equally concerned about using the conventional bug sprays I'd relied on my whole life. At the time, I was trying to be more intentional about the products I was putting on my body and wanted to avoid unnecessary chemicals whenever possible.
I mentioned to my mom that I was thinking about making my own bug spray.
Being the incredible person she is, she went to work creating one for us.
And guess what?
It worked.
Not only did it keep the mosquitoes away during our trip, but we continued using it long afterward. Friends and family started asking for bottles of their own, and before long we realized this wasn't just something our family loved—it was something worth sharing.
When we first created the spray, I had done some research on DEET, the active ingredient found in many conventional insect repellents. While DEET has been extensively studied and is considered effective when used as directed, some people prefer to limit their exposure because heavy or prolonged use has been associated with skin irritation and other potential adverse effects. That research was one of the reasons we set out to create a simple, plant-based alternative that worked for our family.
What started as a homemade solution has since become one of our favorite products.
Our bug spray is made with thoughtfully selected ingredients, has a fresh, pleasant scent, and doesn't leave you smelling like harsh chemicals. Most importantly, it's the same formula our family has trusted and used for years.
We're so excited that what began in our kitchen is now available for you, too.
Our bug spray is officially available for purchase! We can't wait for you to try the product that has become a staple for our family on camping trips, backyard evenings, hikes, and everything in between.
